Dustin Olson, pollster for American Pulse Research & Polling, joined Newsmax’s National Report to share new polling insights and political analysis on the emerging realignment among voters, the rising profile of J.D. Vance, and the Left’s disconnect with Middle America.
J.D. Vance: America First's Next Generation?
With President Trump's first 200 days in the rearview mirror, Olson was asked about who will carry the America First torch once President Trump moves on. Olson said polling suggests strong potential for Vance’s political future.
"The most recent Harvard Harris poll has JD Vance at about 40%, which is not unusual for a vice president because they’re not as known as the president."
Olson highlighted Vance's political instincts and media savvy:
"He’s really good on his feet, great in media interviews, able to push back on media. And really has shown himself to be a very good candidate."
The Shift in Labor Voters
Olson explained a decade-long realignment that has moved blue-collar voters away from the Democratic Party.
"One of the things we’ve seen in polling over the last decade is a true realignment of the electorate. And in labor, Democrats have now started moving to become labor Republicans."
He added that many labor organizations themselves are beginning to shift:
"We, as a polling firm, do polling for labor. So the world has definitely changed. I don’t think [Democrats] are going to win them back."
The Democrats’ Identity Crisis
Olson argued that the Democratic Party is undergoing a transformation—and not necessarily one that reflects the views of the American middle.
"They’ve definitely changed who they’re going after, and we’re watching the transformation of a political party."
He expressed uncertainty about where the party is headed, but suggested it’s moving further left:
"I don’t know what the party looks like 10 years from now exactly, but if you see the kind of people that they’re nominating right now, most of them are Democratic socialists."
Olson said this trend is alienating many traditional voters:
"They’re alienating those Middle American people, and I think that’s going to be the future of the party."
